Question:
My family minhag is to wear tefillin on Chol Hamoed. However, most people in my shul/community do not wear tefillin on Chol Hamoed, and I’d prefer not to stand out. Am I allowed to change my minhag and stop wearing tefillin on Chol Hamoed?
Answer:
Hello,
You are correct. You should not deviate from the minhag of the shul. On the other hand, this is your family minhag, and you should stick to it. There are a few options. You can either daven in the ladies' section, if it is available, until before Hallel with your tefillin on, or you can put them on after davening at home.
