Question:
Because the Kollel Store in Beitar is closed chol hamoed, I bought 4 six-packs of soda water today (saving 2 shekels per 6-pack compared to the makolet close to us). I put them in the lobby of the building directly across the street from the Kollel store because my shopping stroller can't take the weight. I taped them together so no one will take them, and wrote "Blunderberger" in English (or some other non-name) so the Israelis who live in the building will understand they belong to someone and aren't hefker. Then, either Erev Shabbos or next week, Chol Hamoed, I can pick them up when I'm able.
What are the halachic ramifications of what I did? I'm using a public area in a private building in a neighborhood where people are heimish, and there is enough space for people to get strollers down the steps past the stack of 6-packs.
Answer:
Hello,
Yes, you should ask the vaad bayit whether they would allow it, because it is quite possible that it would bother the neighbors, even if they can get their carriages past. They might simply object to the idea of people using their lobby for storage and to the look of the 6-packs in the hallway over Yom Tov.
Best wishes
