Can you please tell me how to take off chomesh properly?
If I earn $100, maaser will be $10.
How do I take off the next 10%? Is it another $10 from the original $100 or is it $9 from the remaining $90?

Hello,
The way to properly separate a chomesh is to take off exactly one tenth, and then exactly another tenth of the original amount, which essentially amounts to exactly one fifth. Meaning for $100 one separates $10 dollars, and then another $10, which is $20 dollars going to tzedakah, leaving him with $80.
You are bringing up a very good point, that when they separated two maasers, the first was 10%, and the second one was a tenth of what was left, which was 10% of 90. The Chofetz Chaim in Ahavas Chesed says that it is indeed 20%, and when they took off terumos u’maaseros, they gave about 2% for teruma, plus another 19% for both ma’aser, so it also came out to 20%.
