What is the halacha regarding saying berochos or wearing Tefillin while in hospital attached to a catheter which empties out urine into a container. I know there is some discussion amongst the poskim, but I’d like a definitive answers with sources if possible. Many thanks.

Answer:

If there is no bad odor, and the urine is covered, it is permitted to daven as usual with one’s tefilling.

Please see the lengthy teshuvah written on this matter by Rabbi Eliezer Waldenberg in Tzitz Eliezer (Vol. 8, no. 1), and the sources he notes.

Best wishes.
