Is it permitted according to halacha to sell your airline miles? I heard it’s against airline policy and they may suspend your account if they find out but it’s not illegal except in one or two states.
Answer:
If there is nothing explicit in the agreement between the client and the airline, and it isn’t illegal, you can sell the miles. However, if it is explicit that miles are non-transferrable, and a person isn’t permitted to transfer miles to somebody else, then they mustn’t be sold (just like a non-transferrable ticket mustn’t be transferred).
I confess that I am not familiar with the air miles system (which sometimes changes), so that there could be further details that might influence the halachah.
