Proper Time for Pidyon Haben

If a boy was born on June 24th at 9 AM, what day and what time would you perform the Pidyon Ha’ben?

Answer:

Mazal Tov!

The Pidyon Haben is performed 31 days from [and including] the day of birth.

In your case that would fall out on Friday, July 24, the 8th of Av.

  1. From what I understand if it comes out on a Friday it should be done Thursday night after Marev, since it should not be done on a Friday afternoon. That was adding to the confusion.

    1. the custom of ashkenazim is to do the pidyon only on the day of 31, this is true even when it falls on friday
