If I’m in an airport, traveling with my tefillin, and need the bathroom and have nowhere I can leave my tefillin (against airport rules to just leave them unattended and no one to leave them with), should I bring my tefillin into the bathroom?

If one can help it, one’s tefillin should not go into the bathroom of the airport, however often when traveling alone, one is not left with a choice. If the tefillin are inside the person’s handbag or suitcase it is permitted to take the suitcase into the bathroom. This is because the tefillin are in two coverings, the tefillin and or tallis bag, and the suitcase. If you don’t have a suitcase, putting them into a bag, or wrapping the tefillin bag with something will be sufficient. (The Mishna Berura holds that the tallis bag is not considered a second bag since the tefillin are always inside it, unless one wraps his tallis around the tefillin to serve as a second cover.)
