I know the gemara in Megilla distinguishes between certain mitzva items needing geniza and others not needing geniza. Are esrogim from eretz yisrael that are otzar beis din because of shvi'is allowed to be thrown out (b'derech kavod)? If not what should one do if they are going to be moving?
Answer:
Otzar Beis Din Esrogim have kedushah, and must be treated with respect. However, after they are no longer edible, it is permitted to wrap them in paper, and discard of them in the normal manner. If they are still edible, one must wait until they are inedible, and only then throw them out.
