Paying Yeshiva Bonuses

Shalom Rav

The Yeshiva that recently laid me off has a system in place whereby talmidim who achieve minimum grades in their bekius tests may receive cash bonuses as an incentive. Until now I have been responsible for requesting the bonus amounts from the Finance Dept and distributing the bonuses. Unfortunately, it has happened periodically that I would not pay out immediately and talmidim would leave the Yeshiva before I could get the bonus to them. This was either due to my feeling overwhelmed from all my other responsibilities towards the Yeshiva (which is a mitigating factor, although does not constitute sufficient excuse) OR due to the fact that sometimes the Yeshiva was not be able to pay out until a certain date.

As a result, I have a list of talmidim who no longer learn in the Yeshiva and who did not receive their bonus(es). Some of them may be in Israel while some may be in chu”l. As you know I am leaving shortly. Do I need to track down these talmidim, which may involve significant time and energy on my part, before I leave?
Thanks

Answer:

There is no need to track down the bachurim, because this is the yeshiva’s debt rather than your own personal debt.

However, you should inform the yeshiva of their debt to the respective bachurim. If and how to pay them will then become the yeshiva’s questions.
