Is it proper to give kids ice pops to eat on shabbos outside if they may come to eat it on grass?
Answer:
The Rema (336:3), citing from the Beis Yosef, writes that one should preferably not eat a meal on a lawn on Shabbos, because it is likely that drink will spill on the grass.
However, there is no actual problem with drinking something on a lawn – the Rema is referring to a full meal, where there is a great likelihood of spillage.
For children, I think there is no need to be stringent in the matter of ice pops. Although a few drops might spill here and there, these are barely perceptible, and the case is certainly distinct from the meals mentioned by the Rema.
Best wishes.
