Touching Baby after Netillas Yadayim

A mother gives her baby to another to hold while she washes for bread, is she permitted to take her baby back before eating the bread? would touching the baby have any effect on her hands?

Please send sources.
Thank you.

Answer:

There is no problem in taking back the baby, provided her hands are dry before she takes him back.

If a person’s hands are still wet, he must not touch the hands of somebody who has not washed netilas yadayim. The reason for this is that we consider the unwashed hands as transferring the tumah back to the washed hands.

However, once washed hands are dry there is no longer a concern for this.

See Shulchan Aruch 162:4 and Mishnah Berurah 45 and 49.

One should however be careful to touch the covered areas of the baby’s body.

Best wishes.
