Can one tie a double knot on shabbos if it’s not so tight? Can one make a tie on shabbos?
Answer:
If the double-knot is loosely tied, it is permitted to tie it on Shabbos. The stringency for double-knots is on account of their being considered craftsmen’s knots, and therefore (according to many Ashkenazi authorities) forbidden to tie even for a short time. However, if the knot is loose it won’t be considered a craftsmen’s knot, and therefore permitted.
It is permitted to make a tie-knot on Shabbos, if one’s intention is to untie the knot within 24 hours.
Best wishes.
