Used Somebody Else’s Ticket

Hi,
I went out with a guy he was supposed to come in for the date for me with the Mega Bus company and then he ended up realizing his passport was expired so I ended up paying and travelling to him even though he paid for a bus fare for a separate ticket. With the company they let you postpone the use of the ticket if you pay a little different in price and booking fees etc. I changed it for him to a late date so that he could visit me. After things ended he does not travel and does not want to travel I asked him if I could use it and trade it in because I use this company all the time and then the money could go towards a separate purchase ticket. He initially said no because he wanted to try to get a refund but eventually said yes because he couldn’t get a refund and he knew I am about to go out with someone and let me use the ticket so I booked the new ticket, using majority of his old ticket’s money. However, he still had hopes that I would go for him and now that I said officially this evening I am no longer interested when he contacted me after yontif he said that I am no longer entitled to using his ticket a few hours I said no to him officially for good. If I already booked my ticket because he said I could use it and have the tickets and using it and now he is retracting it. Is it permissible for me to use the ticket? Do I need to pay him back? Do I need to give him the ticket/ticket money?
Please advise.

Answer:

The person gave you permission to use the ticket, and he cannot retract this permission.

This is all the more true because he knew that you were planning on going out with somebody else – but even without this point, everyone who goes on a date knows that it might not work out, and after you used the ticket with his permission he cannot take back the permission.

Therefore, you don’t have to pay him back and it remains permitted for you to use the ticket.

Best wishes.
