Question:
Shalom, I am asking on behalf of my granddaugter:
“I lent a pair of shoes to my friend…and she lost them. Should she pay me the full amount of what I paid for the shoes, or should she pay me only half, since they were used? Thank you so much. ”
Tehila
Answer:
Your question is very perceptive. You are right, that your friend does not have to pay you for a new pair of shoes, because the pair that she lost was not the same value as a new pair, but if a used one in the condition of the one that was lost, which most probably is less than half of a new one.
