Question:
If a Baal T'shuva was raised in Conservative Judaism where you are given and wear a tallit gadol on your bar mitzvah to daven with and has davened with a tallit gadol his whole life, should he cease wearing a tallit gadol if he becomes Orthodox?
Answer:
There is no need for you to stop wearing the tallis after becoming orthodox, because wearing a tallis while davening is not a practice that is against the torah. If fact there are numerous Jewish communities, such as the Sefardim, and a number of Ashkenazi communities that wear talleisim during davening. therefore it is fine to keep on wearing it, however I would advise you to wear a tallis that is customary for the orthodox to wear, such as one with black stripes, and not colorful ones etc.
