Ma’aser on (physically) lost income

Question:

Hi,

I was paid 400 NIS in cash for a job that I did. When I checked my pockets later that evening, I seemed to have lost 1 of the 200 NIS bills. For ma’aser purposes, am I allowed to ignore this income or not?

Answer:

Hi,

It is sad that you had the loss of 200 shekel, however you did earn that money, and therefore it seems that you would have to give maaser for it. It is true that it is not easy because you just had this loss, but as chazal say, a person never will get poor from giving tzedakah. Hashem should repair your loss and give you ample parnossa with ease.

Best wishes
