There are two potential issues here, greeting people before davening, and taking care of one’s business or chores before davening. The issue of not greeting someone isn’t really applicable here, as it is when one goes to the other person’s home, and not when two people happen to meet each other. In such an instance one is allowed to say good morning, (but should refrain from getting involved in idle chatter before davening).
Regarding doing other things before davening, the idea is if he is getting involved or not. If it is something “aray”, in a way that what they are not getting involved in what they are doing, such a quick hug or talking about something without getting involved, such as sitting down to talk, then it is permitted.
Also, it is permitted to do mitzva things that need to be done now and can’t be done after davening. (This is something that is very individual and depends on each person’s situation). Therefore, depending on one’s individual situation, if one’s wife has a specific need to talk to him, and she needs it specifically then, then his talking to her would be considered a mitzva, and is permitted before davening.
