Substitute teacher

Question:

Hello I am planning on becoming a substitute teacher (in non-jewish schools) shortly. Am I required to break the students up by gender, ie girls on one side, boys on the other while I’m supervising them? Or is it okay to leave them in their regular mixed seating, Thanks!

Answer:

Hello,

In a non-Jewish school you do not have any obligation to separate the genders. It might help the student’s ability to concentrate, or you might want to do it for other reasons, however you will have to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of doing something like that.

Best wishes
