The halachas of shatnez confuse me, I know we can’t sleep on shatnez,wear it, etc. My question is though, can we handle shatnez? For example one time I was helping someone move what I believe was a wool rug (possibly shatnez), is this allowed? Or if a co worker asked me to hand him his wool jacket at work etc. Can I handle (possible shatnez)or even (known shatnez) as long as I dont wear it? Thank you

Hello,
The prohibition of shatnez is not to wear a garment[1] that has shatnez and not to cover oneself with shatnez. Items that contain shatnez that are not meant to be worn are permitted to make and even keep, as long as they aren’t worn in a way that gives the body pleasure. Therefore, they may be handled, as long as you aren’t wearing them in such a way. (Regarding Shabbos though such fabrics are muktza[2]).
Regarding helping the co- worker, if he is a gentile then there no issue with it. If he is Jewish then it can possibly be assisting him do an aveiro, however if you don’t know if it is shatnez in the first place it wouldn’t be an issue. If you have strong suspicion or if you know that it is indeed shatnez then it would be problematic, as it is assisting the Jew in his doing an Aveiro.
