Question:
Shalom aleichem. The logo for luxury watch brand "Patek Phillipe" is a cross, not your typical xtian cross but if you research it it seems to be some type of Swiss seal, modeled after the Pope's seal. Is there a halachic issue with wearing such a watch, being that we're not allowed to give shevach to Avoda Zara?
Answer:
Hello,
You are allowed to wear the watch, because the emblem is not meant to be an avoda zara, rather it is a decoration, with a Catholic theme. This is the official symbol is the Swiss, and at this point it is the symbol of the Swiss, not the avoda zara. You may not want to wear it because you find it distasteful to wear something that looks like a cross on your hand, however halachically it is permitted.
