Lets say on Shabbos you have several different types of pot covers or container covers that are mixed together. You would like to remove each cover from the mixture and put it on the pot or container to which it belongs. Would this be a problem of Borer? It seems that whether or not it is permissible would depend on whether putting the cover on top of the pot or container would be considered immediate use of the cover. Is this correct?

It depends on the circumstances. If you need the cover and the pot for immediate use then it is taking the good for now, and permitted. However if you do not need the pot and it’s cover for now, then you are sorting them out for later, which is problematic to do on Shabbos.
