Making a “cross” shape

Question:

Is there any halachic issue with making a picture of a cross? How about making a straight “t” (some curve the bottom for this reason)? How about shaping your body in its shape (as some sports players do after scoring)? Please include sources (as you usually do). Much appreciated.

Answer:

Regarding writing a of a cross, although it is technically halachically permitted since it isn’t being worshipped, nevertheless however it is still incorrect to make a picture of an avoda zara. As far as making the shape of a small “t”, it is also permitted, since you are not even making it with the intention of making a cross. Even so, there are people that are careful not to make their “t”s in the shape of a cross since it still looks like the symbol of an avoda zara. Regarding making oneself into the shape of a cross when something good happens, it would appear that it is a way that Christians pray and thank their avoda zara, and therefore it would not be permitted.
