Visiting the Beach on Shabbos

Can one go to a private beach on shabbos and yom tov?

Answer:

It is permitted to go to the beach on Shabbos, but not to swim in the sea.

Although there are conditions under which it is permitted to enter the water according to the strict halachah, it has become the fairly universal custom that one does not swim on Shabbos and Yom Tov, both due to possible halachic considerations, and because it does not suit the “spirit of Shabbos.”

Best wishes.

See Shulchan Aruch (339:2) where we find distinctions based on different types of pools, but poskim are generally stringent concerning swimming today (see Shemiras Shabbos Kehilchasah 14:12; Yaskil Avdi 6:1), seeing it as something inappropriate for Shabbos.
