Squeezing Orange on Shabbos

Is it muter on Shabbos for someone to take an orange, squeeze it with the peel still on, and then stick a straw into it and drink the juice from inside (squeezing done of course in order to get more of the juice to come out from the orange, however leaving the peel on so it should all stay in.)

Answer:

Unsure if this will work, but if it does work, it is probably not permitted.

Although it is permitted to squeeze an orange onto food on Shabbos, this is because the liquid is tafel to the food, and is not considered to be an independent entity.

In the case of the question, the liquid is being squeezed in order to form an independent liquid, as clear from the plans to drink it with a straw, and it is therefore not permitted.

There is room to argue that since the orange stays an orange – a food, and not a liquid – it should be permitted. But, if the process actually works, it stands to reason that nobody in their right mind will eat the pulp of the orange, and it becomes principally liquid.
