Tropicana Fish Drink in Meat Meal

Tropicana makes an orange juice that has fish in it. Can one drink that at a fish meal?
Thank You

Answer:

I understand the question refers to a meat meal.

The Taz (Yoreh De’ah 95:3) explains that the prohibition of eating a mixture of meat and fish applies only to eating actual meat and fish together. The taste of meat alone (ta’am), which is emitted by a pot or plate into fish, does not render it as forbidden food, and vice versa.

This is why we may eat fish with clean meat utensils. Likewise, after eating hot fish with a fork, it is sufficient to wash the fork, before using it for meat. We are not concerned for the belios in the fork.

This is not quite the same as our case, where there is actual fish extract in the drink. Nonetheless, it stands to reason that this is a minimal fish extract, and it can therefore be considered as taste alone, so that there is no problem in drinking it in a meat meal.

Best wishes.
