What is the halacha l’maseh in regards to making coleslaw on Shabbos (mixing together small pieces of cabbage and carrot together wtih mayonnaise.) What’s the din with making potato salad (mixing relatively speaking bigger pieces of potato together with mayonnaise.) Who are the big poskim that speak about these cases l’maseh.
Answer:
If the pieces are a little large, it is fine (Shemiras Shabbos 8:4; Menuchas Aharva 9:19).
However, with small pieces this will be a problem of lash, and it must be mixed with the required shinuyim (slowly, and in a criss-cross action).
