Are there any halachic prohibitions or support for exchanging services (I am a “worship” musician) for synagogue membership fees? I have been out-of-work for a very long time, and do not have the financial resources to contribute dollars for synagogue membership or for my son’s Beit Sefer classes. I do not seek or want tzedakah, wish to maintain my dignity in providing a service requested by the chazan regularly. I look forward to your response.
