Looking at the Rebbe

It says in the Gemorah in Chagigah Daf 16a

…המסתכל בג’ דברים עיניו כהות בקשת ובנשיא ובכהנים …בנשיא דכתיב ונתת מהודך עליו

How does this Gemorah apply now a days (if it does at all) in regards to looking at a Rav, Rebbe, Rosh Yeshiva, Teacher, Gadol HaDor, etc. Anyone that would assume a role of “leader” in Klal Yisrael (whether it be of a Kehillah, Chassidus, Yeshiva, etc.

Answer:

This teaching surely doesn’t apply to looking at a rav or rebbe – for it also says “you eyes should behold your teachers,” and in times of Chazal it is likewise clear that the rav would face rows of disciples.

Therefore, there is no concern today for this matter.

Best wishes.
