Investing in Poker

Hi, I would like to know if there is a problem with giving money to a professional poker player who plays for money, as an investment?

Is poker assur al pi halacha? Even if this could be this case, the fact that I’m not doing the playing just me getting gains in it permissible?

Thank you.

Answer:

It is permitted to make this investment.

Poker involves luck, but also skill. If this were not the case, there wouldn’t be professional players out there, and there would not be Poker world championships etc. Like investing in the stock market, you do need some luck, but if your research indicates that the investment is solid and worthwhile, there is no reason to prohibit.

Of course, you have to ensure that the mechanism is okay al pi halachah, meaning that there should not be any ribbis prohibitions etc.

Best wishes.
