Selling 750 linen

Hi rabbi my question is: I bought certain bed linens from a company who buys bed sheets from different manufacturers. One of the brands they sold me is labeled as having a 750 thread count and they say it is from a reputable company, however when I feel the sheets and when I look at them they don’t look like they are 750 thread count and don’t feel like that as well, but they claim that is is from a reputable mill. what should I do when reselling these, even if I sell it for a cheap price how can I list them as 750 count or even less if I don’t think it is?

Answer:

If the brand is labeled as being a 750 thread, and presumably it will be illegal to label as such if the linen is not 750 thread, then you can assume that this is indeed the case. I also assume that these are cheaper than regular 750 thread linen, which will explain the difference in quality.

If you pass on this cheaper price, then buyers ought to understand that this is not superior quality, and not expect the best quality 750 material.

If the linen costs the full price, then perhaps your feel is somehow misleading – though you probably know better.

If you are still concerned you can check with the manufacturer and ensure that it is really 750 as declared. Of course, if asked you should explain that the feel is not the standard feel of 750 material.

Best wishes.
