a simple question: why do we, as jews, want to live a long life??
We honour our parents etc ‘so that we may be fortunate to live a long life’, we chase the mother bird away sothat we may take her eggs ‘so that we may be fortunate to live a long life. etc etc etc.
WHY DO WE WANT TO LIVE A LONG LIFE???
Answer:
Every second in this world is a golden opportunity to earn eternal reward in the world to come. Every additional moment of life is the greatest gift in the world, an additional opportunity to do mitzvos, learn Torah, and fulfill Hashem’s will.
