Question:
Hi,
I am a 58 year old woman who was hit by a car a few years ago requiring surgery on both knees. When I daven Shemonah Esrai standing I am in severe pain which affects my kevannah. It it permissible for me to sit for the parts of the davening that do not require standing to bending my knees or bowing?
I have severe degenerative arthritis in both knees which is the cause of the pain I feel during standing while davening Shmomah Esrai.
Thank You
Answer:
Hello,
Yes, you may daven Shemona Esrai sitting down. In addition, if standing for the parts that require bending your knees will cause you “severe pain”, standing during those parts is also not required.
You should sit with your feet together as they would be if you were davening Shmona Esrai standing.
Have a Refuah Shelaima
