Regrown Aravos

Question:

The top of the branches of our aravos bush were eaten by deer but now seem to be growing new leaves at the top of the cut branches. Will those aravos be kosher lechatchila, are they posul b’dieved, or is it not preferable because of הַקְרִיבֵהוּ נָא לְפֶחָתֶךָ?

Answer:

Hello,

If th leaves grow back at the top, and at the very top it is no longer missing, the aravos are kosher. In fact, aravos growers cut the top of the leaves a certain amount of time before succos, in order that the top of the arava should grow back in a way that it has a “lavluv”.

Best wishes
