Chok Le’Yisrael

Who compiled hok l’Yisrael? Did the author compile all parts of it? What is its purpose? It has seemingly ‘non-connected’ parts?

Answer:

Chok L’Yisrael was apparently compiled by the Arizal in the Sixteenth Century; at the very least, the Arizal recommended learning in this order. As the Kaf Hachaim (155:3) writes, this allows a person to learn portions of Torah, Neviim, Kesubim, Mishnah, Gemara, and Zohar in a relatively short time. The Mussar and Halachah parts were added later by the Chida, and this was called “Yosef Chok.” Perhaps these are the “non-connected” parts you mean.

  1. the ‘non-connected’ parts that i mentioned was that the mishnayot, gemaras, zohar, etc. are not in any order (seemingly), or are they?

if one wants to do shnayim mikrah and learn all of nach and all of mishna does this take it through everything?

    1. They are connected in some way to matters that occur in the parashah.
For studying shnayim mikra and for learning all of nach, it is best to go straight to the targum and to the Tanach.
