Question:
Do you have to give chatity if you get an Aliyah?
Answer:
You don't have to give the charity when you get an aliya. However many shuls use the aliyas and make a mesh’beirach afterwards as a way to help them raise money for the upkeep of the shul.
I have heard that if one does not give charity after receiving an Aliyah, (not in response to the mi shaberach) the honor is encapsulated in a shell that limits ascendency, I thought it was called a klipas chinam (a shell of free) ie a non effort
I am not familiar with this. I can say that I saw R' Moshe Feinstein zt"l and other gedolim get numerous aliyos in thier yeshivos and as far as I know they didn't give tzedakah.
