Question:
Is it a problem for a single (never married) woman to get a yearly pap smear test at the gynecologist? Is there a question of tearing the hymen? Would using tampons present a similar issue?
Answer:
According to many doctors, there is no need for a single virgin woman to have a pap smear, as the chances of developing cervical cancer at such a point are greatly diminished. Having a pap smear will most probably cause the hymen to tear. Using a tampon would also present such an issue of causing a tear, and isn’t recommended, however it is not as likely to happen as with pap smear.
