My mother is giving me a car. It will be at the repair shop until Friday afternoon or Monday. I would like to pick it up over Chol Hamoed. Two questions – Can my mother just nullify the chametz in the car and what am I to do about the chametz in the car if I want to pick it up over Chol Hamoed?
If you are going to use the car on Chol Hamoed and you aren’t planning on selling the car for the whole Pesach then you should go down to the mechanic and check the car for chometz (unless the car is very far away from you and it will take a long time to get to it). Nullifying is not enough, because you are going to use it on Pesach and not selling it. You don’t have to vacuum it out and get out all the dirty crumbs in the carpet, since they are anyways not edible, but you do have to look for edible chometz under the seats, in the truck etc. The actual checking shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes.
