How to Kasher a metal insert crock pot

Question:

So I found out the soup I was warming up was OU dairy in the crock pot made with a metal insert not ceramic. the crock pot was always used for meat. Is there a way to kasher it now?

Answer:

Yes, you can kasher the metal insert of your crock pot, and it is done the same way as koshering any other pot. Clean the pot well so that there is no leftover food residue etc. on the inside or outside of the pot. If you have a very large pot that you can heat up until it is boiling well, and insert the pot inside it and wait a few seconds so that the water will start to boil again. Then take the pot out and rinse it with cold water. Alternatively, if you don’t have a pot large enough, you can fill the metal insert with as much water as you can, bring it to a boil, take something that is metal, i.e. and empty meaty pot, ladle and heat it up and insert the hot metal into the pot so that the water overflows and reaches even the top rim of the pot. According to some authorities you can even stir the pot in a way that causes the water to flow over the sides, thereby kashering the rim of the pot. Then empty the insert of it’s hot water and rinse with cold water.

Best wishes
