Question:
B"H May a person do teshuva at night or does it need to be in the daylight? Thank you
Answer:
There is no difference between doing teshuva at night or during the day. In fact, every night before we go to sleep, we do teshuva for any aveiros that we night have done that day. I once heard from Horav Zeidel Epstein zt”l that one of the highest level of teshuva is when the person does teshuva for an aveiro on the day the aveiro was done, as long as it is before going to sleep. The reason being that when out neshoma goes up to shomayim when we sleep, all of our actions are then recorded. Once it is written, it has to be erased and there are different levels of erasing, depending on the level of teshuva that the person did. However, if the teshuva was done before going to sleep, then the Aveiro was never written down, so there is no need to even erase it. Therefore, doing teshuva the day the aveiro was done is the best.
