Should one avoid attending an Hachnasat Sefer Torah being given to my shul. Add on point, is there any change to this when wanting to go to take my young boys (8 & 6) to experience the excitement of their first such event.

You can take your children there for the parade part without you dancing, but you can’t go to the meal.
