Intent behind ritual objects and judaica

Question:

Hi Rabbi,

I’m wondering if the Jewish ritual objects we get for using to do mitzvot need to be also from holy Jewish sources, like craftspeople or companies with yiras shemayim? Does the intent behind the object matter? For example I sometimes see mezuzah covers that are from non-Jewish companies. I know that with Mezuzahs themselves it really matters where you get it from. But does this also apply to the objects that are used together for the mitzvah? Thanks so much

Answer:

Hello,

Mezuza cases etc., especially before a mezuza is placed in them, has no kedusha, and therefore they do not have to be made from craftsman with yiras shomayim. If they are made for decorating avoda zara etc., then they should not be used for a mezuza, or for other mitzvos.

Best wishes
