Ribbis when borrowing from a foreign Bank

Question:

I am considering taking out a loan for a few thousand dollars from the bank “Barclays Bank. According to my research, this bank is owned by people in England. The loan has a fixed interest rate. Do I need to be concerned that the owners are Jewish, thereby presenting a ribbis issue?

Thank you

Answer:

Hello,

Unless you know otherwise, you can assume that the ownership of the bank is mostly gentiles, since most people living in England are gentiles. Therefore, you don’t have to be concerned that there might be a ribbis issue.

Best wishes
