Washing vegetables and checking for bugs

Question:

Is it halachikly required to wash and clean vegetables or halachikly one just needs to ensure there are no bugs in the food however way they accomplish that?

Answer:

Hello,

The idea of washing and checking fruits and vegetables for bugs is a practical one. As we see that there are fruits and vegetables that there is no need to check them, i.e. potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, etc., since they are assumed to be free of infestation.

Therefore, if the person has a different way of accomplishing the result that the produce of bug free that is fine.

It should be noted that, the above is not giving credence to any specific method of ensuring that produce is bug free, it is only meant to  explain the goals on a theoretical level.

Best wishes
