Question:
I have hair on my ears which I shaved. A while ago I thought that it may be a question of lo silbash so I didn’t do it for a long time at this point it is a very long and making me feel very uncomfortable I called a halacha hotline and asked if its ok to shave it and the Rov who answered told me that he once heard from a ruv that it can be a problem if its done for beauty and I told him I was embarrassed…
I asked him if I can ask another Rabbi and he said yes. He told me I can call back and talk to someone else…
I saw on this website that shaving hair because of embarrassment is ok
It is really bothering me and making me very uncomfortable
Also would it be ok to shave it in the 3 weeks and does it change being that I called a rabbi already (maybe I didn’t stress enough to him how embarrassing it is for me …as i was uncomfortable asking the question to begin with)

Hello,
Before answering your question, there is no need to keep them long, as even one may not shave certain hair, it is permitted to trim it. The poskim discuss removing excess hair between one’s eyebrows, (he has a unibrow) and it is embarrassing for him. They say that it is permitted for him, since he is not removing the hair in order to look pretty, rather in order to avoid embarrassment, therefore it is permitted. Removing hair from one’s ears, which is causing embarrassment, would be similar to this, and permitted. Additionally, it is the norm for many men nowadays to remove hair from their ears, therefore it isn’t something that is womanly to do.
Regarding the fact that you already asked a Rov, since he gave you permission to ask someone else, that is not an issue.
Regarding the three weeks, according to a number of poskim, removing hair from between one’s eyes, from one’s nose or ears is not included in the prohibitio not to take haircuts in the three weeks. Therefore trimming the hiars would be permitted.
