I clipped one fingernail at 5 pm (nightfall was 528, sunset 458) on Thursday and then realized I had read that either Wed or
Thursday was not permitted so I stopped. Is this something to worry about?

Hello,
There is an idea, that when possible, one should refrain from cutting their nails, and hair 48 hours before Shabbos. The reason is because they start being noticeable that they are growing back only after 48 hours, and it is not kavod Shabbos that they appear to start growing back then. In instances when one can’t cut them on Friday, for example, if it is Yom Tov, for those who don’t take haircuts on Rosh Chodesh, according to many poskim it is permitted to cut them on Thursday. Additionally, what does one do if they don’t want to cut their finger and toenails on the same day, (for kabalistic reasons) and they need to cut both of them before Shabbos, they will do cut their toenails on Thursday and their fingernails on Friday. Therefore, regarding your situation, I wouldn’t be too concerned, because it was only two minutes after sunset, and we are not talking here about something that is forbidden Biblically, nor with a Rabbinic prohibition. Therefore, I wouldn’t be worried about it.
