Correct the yahrtzeit of the Vilna Gaon is on 19th of Tishrei. One tidbit from the Vilna gaon regarding succos is that he held that the mitzva of v’somachto bchagecha, is to remain constantly happy for the whole 8 day period. He also said that this is the hardest mitzva to actual perform- not to get upset or lose the happy feeling for such a long period.
