Chalking a Billiard stick

Question:

Is it Permissible to chalk a billiard cue on shabbos (according to those that hold playing billiards on shabbos is permissible )

Answer:

Thank you for your question.
Without getting into the issue of playing billiard on Shabbos, we may definitely not chalk the cue on Shabbos. The simplest reason is because of meleches tochain, because it is making the chalk into powder when it is rubbed on the cue. Aside from that, it might possibly be makeh b’patish, because chalking the cue is in a way fixing the cue so it will hold the ball better. The chalk is also muktza to touch.
Best wishes
