Question:
The shul that I go to for Yomim Naoraim (Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur) brings in a special Chazon with a beautiful voice from Eretz Yisrael. I am assuming that the shul pays the Chazon. Also, I believe that the Chazon is part of a Yeshivah in Eretz Yisrael.
Additionally, the shul itself is a community shul where people come mostly to daven during the week and on Shabbasim. Some learning also takes place there by the balabatim during regular weeks as well.
The cost to reserve seats for Yomim Naoraim is $350.
In addition, they were raising funds by selling kibbudim, etc. on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. My pledge total was $1,000. For this, I had the kavana to use my meiser money.
Can I use my Meiser money for either or both of the above?

The poskim[1] say that in general, we should not use maaser money for buying a seat for Yamim Noraim. This is because we are getting something for it, and it is similar to a purchase for our own benefit. (There are however some exceptions, such as if one can daven in a shul that doesn’t take money for seats, or if this shul charges a larger amount of money than other comparable places.)
The money spent to buy aliyos may come from maaser money if you had in mind[2] to use maaser money for it before you pledged to buy it. This is considered giving tzedakah, even though you will have some fringe benefit from it. See Sources.
