Turning lights on and off in an emergency situation on Shabbos

Question:

We live in Israel, and after Simchas Torah we started to leave the light on in our safe room on Shabbos, so that our kids wouldn’t be scared if we had to go in there. B”H, we haven’t had any sirens in my area since October, so we stopped keeping the light on.

1. However, if there is a need to enter the room on Shabbos, would we be able to turn on the light with a shinui?
2. Likewise, if there is a terrorist infiltration alert on Shabbos (which happened once), can we turn off the lights with a shinui?

Hello,

Let’s daven that you never have to do this, but if you do.

1. The poskim write that it is permitted, similar to the halacha that if a child, is locked into a room, and afraid as a result that it is permitted to break open the door on Shabbos. Obviously if it can be done with a shinui, that is preferred. See sources
2. If this is what the security officials say to do in this situation, then that is what has to be done.
