Calculating Shloshim

Question:

My mother passed away on Shabbos haGadol, Yud Nissan (April 4) and was buried motsei Shabbos yud-alef Nissan (before midnight April 4). as Pesach interrupted shiva, has shloshim already been according to Sephardi ruling?

Answer:

Hamakom yenachem eschem b’toch shar aveilei Tzion v’Yerushalayim

The halacha for Ashkenazim and Sephardim is the same, that shiva finishes on Erev Pesach, and is considered as seven days towards shloshim. Eight days of Pesach makes it 15, therefore after 15 more days, which is on the 7th or Iyar was the end of the shloshim. Therefore from now on you would only have the restrictions of an avel during the first year.

Best wishes
